Health Information Policy

The Wood Burditt Group assists both covered entities and business associates with issues arising under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. We counsel organizations on compliance matters related to the Privacy Rule, which sets national standards for the protection of health information, as applied to the three types of covered entities: health plans, health care clearinghouses, and health care providers who conduct certain health care transactions electronically. In turn, Privacy Rule issues also concern business associates in that the regulations require covered entities to receive adequate assurances as to the security and disposition of protected health information, typically in terms of a business associate agreement (BAA).

The Privacy Rule as set forth in the HIPAA regulations is enforced by the Office for Civil Rights of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Wood Burditt Group provides assistance to all organizations affected by this rule and these regulations.
